At a press availability in Harrisburg on Friday, House Majority Leader Dave Reed (R-Indiana) said lawmakers are currently working on the revenue bills necessary to finalize the 2016-17 state budget. Reed indicated that lawmakers are prepared to vote on the proposal to increase revenues by 1.2 billion dollars, and will return to send the legislation to the Governor as soon as it is prepared.

The budget legislation passed by the Pennsylvania House this week included too much spending, and will force the state to raise taxes, according to State Rep. Brad Roae (R-Erie, Crawford). Roae said he voted against the budget and also plans to oppose revenue bills that aim to increase the burden on taxpayers in the Commonwealth.

In a broad bipartisan vote on Thursday, the Pennsylvania House passed a state budget for fiscal year 2016-17. Senate Bill 1073 contains no new or broad-based tax increases, and was approved by overwhelming margins in both the House and the Senate. Rep. Doyle Heffley (R-Carbon) said lawmakers in both parties and chambers worked together to ensure an on-time budget and end taxpayers’ anxiety over another protracted budget battle.
Senate Bill 1073 now awaits the Governor’s signature.

In a bipartisan vote, the Pennsylvania House on Tuesday overwhelmingly approved a $31.55 billion state budget that supports the core functions of state government, increases funding for education to historic levels and does not rely on any broad-based tax increases. House Majority Leader Dave Reed (R-Indiana) said the on-time House budget plan represents a significant effort to provide for the future of the Commonwealth while being sensitive to the needs of Pennsylvania’s taxpayers.

The Pennsylvania House voted Tuesday to support a fiscally responsible state budget for the 2016-17 fiscal year. The budget plan totals $31.55 billion—nearly $2 billion less than originally proposed by Gov. Tom Wolf and does not include any broad-based tax increases. This budget also includes a historic investment in education, including $200 million in basic education funding, as well as increases for Pre-K Counts, Headstart programs and special education. Lancaster County funding priorities, including $15 million to combat the heroin epidemic, $2 million in avian flu preparation and response, and funding to provide for three additional classes of state troopers were also included in the budget. House Majority Whip Bryan Cutler (R-Lancaster) said the spending plan was the product of a broad bipartisan effort.
