HARRISBURG – Rep. Craig Staats (R-Bucks) today released the following statement in response to Gov. Tom Wolf’s proposed $33.8 billion budget proposal:
“Today, Governor Wolf released his plan to increase taxes and state spending by historic levels. As elected officials, we have a duty to pass a timely budget that ensures that government, like every household across the Commonwealth, lives within its means. The governor’s $33.8 billion spending plan, which represents a staggering 16 percent increase in state spending, would simply grow government and rely on taxpayers to foot the bill.
“While I am encouraged that the governor is interested in reducing onerous taxes on property owners and businesses, including reducing the 9.99 percent Corporate Net Income Tax and eliminating the Capital Stock and Franchise Tax, it is important that we ensure that any revenue reductions do not result in an overall tax increase on working Pennsylvanians.
“The governor’s address today signals the start of our work toward crafting a fiscally responsible budget that addresses the concerns of Pennsylvania residents. I look forward to working with the governor and the Legislature to pass a plan that makes it easier for businesses to operate and hire employees, increases educational opportunities for our students, and provides necessary relief to taxpayers.”
