BRIDGEVILLE – Thanks to a new law supported by Rep. Jason Ortitay (R-Washington/Allegheny) next year more than 150,000 additional Pennsylvania seniors and people with disabilities will be eligible for the Commonwealth’s Property Tax/Rent Rebate program.
Act 7 of 2023 increases the program income limits for homeowners and renters who are 65 years and older; widows and widowers 50 years and older; and people with disabilities 18 years and older to $45,000. The law also raises the maximum amount each homeowner or renter can receive from $650 to $1,000.
“With the high rate of inflation over the past few years, money does not go as far as it used to,” Ortitay said. “For seniors and those with disabilities, it has been especially difficult.”
Currently, the income limit is $35,000 a year for homeowners and $15,000 annually for renters, and half of Social Security income is excluded.
