HARRISBURG – State Rep. David Parker (R-Monroe) today joined his colleagues in passing a state budget for the 2015-16 fiscal year by a vote of 112-77. The spending plan, House Bill 1192, increases education spending by $370 million dollars.
“I support the increase in spending for education, but more importantly, I want to see Monroe County schools get their fair share of this new funding,” Parker said. “For 23 years our communities have suffered under the inequitable ‘hold harmless’ policy and I will continue to advocate for directing this new funding to those 180 districts for which ‘hold harmless’ has been anything but harmless.”
“If we receive our fair share of state funding, our school districts could lower property taxes for homeowners who have been over-burdened for too long. It is my hope that the Senate will act on property tax reform soon, as we already have in the House, so that it can be made part of the state budget this year.”
The budget proposal passed today fully funds the core functions of government – transportation, health and public safety, and intellectual disabilities programs and county child welfare services as well as funding for rape crisis and domestic violence prevention programs.
