HARRISBURG – Rep. Kurt Masser (R-Columbia/Montour/Northumberland) voted in favor of Senate Bill 1, a public pension reform measure that would establish a hybrid 401(K)-style and cash balance plan for
future state and school employees. After the vote on Tuesday, Masser made the following statement:
“Pennsylvania is facing a massive financial crisis due to its underfunded public pension systems. I believe it’s the most important issue currently facing our state, and that is among the reasons why I voted in favor of this proposal today. The systems for both state and public school employees are underfunded, which puts major stress on budgets at all levels of government. As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, I have been working closely with the budget numbers over the last several months, and I can say without a doubt that nothing affects us more than this public pension crisis.”
Senate Bill 1, sponsored by Senate Majority Leader Jake Corman (R-Centre), has been sent to the governor for his consideration.
