HARRISBURG -- Rep. Warren Kampf (R-Montgomery/Chester) joined a majority of his House colleagues in passing a bill to help struggling social service agencies and school districts desperate for their state subsidies.

The legislation, Senate Bills 1000 and 1001, have been sent to Gov. Tom Wolf.

The legislation is an emergency state funding bill that will provide $11 billion in state funds and allows $24.3 billion in federal dollars to reach their intended recipients.

“This is not about politics; it’s about fairness to our schools and our communities’ service providers. These groups take care of our children, our seniors, our disabled and those most in need,” said Kampf.

“This is yet another attempt to by the House to offer a workable solution to ending the budget impasse caused by a governor committed to massive hikes to the state sales tax and the Personal Income Tax,” Kampf said. “By passing this measure, my colleagues and I are taking responsibility for paying our bills while negotiations toward a final budget continue.”

Kampf called on Gov. Tom Wolf to sign the legislation into law, end the political brinksmanship, and allow our schools to purchase textbooks, students to fund tuition and rape crisis centers to keep staff working.

“Unlike the governor, we are supporting our most vulnerable citizens, the same people Gov. Wolf is holding hostage in a calculated move to win support for his $5 billion tax increase that our families simply cannot afford,” Kampf said.

A veto from Wolf would continue to inflict severe pain as school districts, health and human service agencies, children and individuals receiving critical services would continue being pawns in the governor’s game.

“We have the money in Harrisburg to meet these needs—taxes are of course being paid--and there is absolutely no reason that money should not be used now, rather than withheld by the governor as political leverage,” Kampf said.
