HARRISBURG – Following a vote in the House of Representatives, in which Gov. Tom Wolf’s tax proposal was defeated in a 127 to 73 vote, Rep. Russ Diamond (R-Lebanon) issued the following statement:
“After months of claiming his tax proposal had enough support to pass the General Assembly, Gov. Tom Wolf today saw his plan go down in defeat. It wasn’t even close. The masquerade is over, as it’s clearly evident Pennsylvanians won’t accept the governor’s massive, multi-billion dollar tax hike.
It’s time for the governor to get serious – no more games, no more illusions, no more pretending large-scale income and sales tax increases are going to happen. His strategy of manufacturing a budget crisis to win legislative support for bigger government has failed.
Our school districts are hurting and real Pennsylvanians with real needs are suffering. The governor needs to roll up his sleeves, accept reality, and sign the budget that people want: one that holds the line on taxes and requires government to live within its means. Our kids, seniors and citizens with disabilities can be used as pawns no longer.”
