HARRISBURG – Working to protect Pennsylvania taxpayers and businesses from a multi-billion dollar tax hike plan proposed by the governor to grow state government, state Rep. Rob Kauffman (R-Franklin) today voted with the majority of his colleagues in the House against the plan. He issued this statement following the vote:

“The governor sought to raise the Personal Income Tax by 16 percent. That is unacceptable to me and the hard-working taxpayers that I represent. Government needs to learn to live within its means and use taxation of the people as a last resort.

“The Legislature has sent two separate proposals to the governor that would balance the budget and invest more funding in education without any new or increased taxes – so it can be done. The governor must recognize that he does not have the support for broad-based taxes in order to pay for his increased spending plan.

“I appreciate the governor’s recognition that there is a school property tax issue in the Commonwealth; however, his plan is yet another Band-Aid solution. We need a robust plan that moves toward elimination, providing dollar-for-dollar property tax relief for all property taxpayers. This is the type of plan I have long advocated.

“I am hopeful with today’s vote behind us that the governor can leave his tax-and-spend mentality at the door and come to the table with a renewed sense of urgency and willingness to compromise on a final budget plan that will drive out needed state and federal dollars to the schools, counties and organizations in need. Day 100 of the impasse is upon us and we need to pass a responsible budget now.”
