WHAT:    Rep. Tim Hennessey (R-Chester/Montgomery), chairman of the House Transportation Committee, will host a public hearing this week in Westmoreland County on legislation to allow for driverless vehicle testing and deployment in Pennsylvania. Legislation by Rep. Donna Oberlander (R-Clarion/Armstrong/Forest) would amend the state Motor Vehicle Code to permit highly autonomous vehicles (HAV) to operate in a driverless fashion while still maintaining pedestrian, occupant and overall traffic safety.     Deployment of such vehicles could help take the pressure off the supply chain by helping to deliver food, medicine and building supplies as part of a nationwide network.  So far, 17 other states have enacted similar laws.

WHO:    Hennessey, Oberlander and members of the committee; Kathryn Marshall, Autonomous Vehicle Industry Association; Sam Marshall, CEO, Insurance Federation of Pennsylvania (virtual); Kelley Yemen, director of Complete Streets, City of Philadelphia (virtual); Kim Lucas, director, Department of Mobility and Infrastructure, City of Pittsburgh; John Mataya, state legislative director, Department of Political and Field Action, International Brotherhood of Teamsters; Frank Snyder, secretary- treasurer, Pennsylvania AFL-CIO; James Murphy, vice president of government affairs at Locomation and member of Pennsylvania Motor Truck Association; and Mark Kopko, director, Office of Transformational Technology, PennDOT.

WHEN:    Thursday, March 17, at 12:30 p.m.

WHERE:    Regional Industrial Development Center (RIDC) Westmoreland 1001, Conference Center, 1009 Technology Drive, Mt. Pleasant, PA.
