WHAT: Rep. Tim Hennessey (R-Chester/Montgomery), chairman of the House Transportation Committee, will host a public hearing this week in Westmoreland County on legislation to allow for driverless vehicle testing and deployment in Pennsylvania. Legislation by Rep. Donna Oberlander (R-Clarion/Armstrong/Forest) would amend the state Motor Vehicle Code to permit highly autonomous vehicles (HAV) to operate in a driverless fashion while still maintaining pedestrian, occupant and overall traffic safety. Deployment of such vehicles could help take the pressure off the supply chain by helping to deliver food, medicine and building supplies as part of a nationwide network. So far, 17 other states have enacted similar laws.
