HARRISBURG –Rep. Ryan Warner (R-Fayette/Westmoreland) issued the following statement, directed to President Barack Obama, Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf and Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto:
“Your decision to accept Syrian refugees into our nation, state and region, despite the knowledge that a thorough screening process is not in place, demonstrates reckless and poor leadership.
“It is believed that one of the terrorists implicated in the recent Paris attacks posed as a refugee in order to gain admittance to France. Why would we ever, knowing this, allow refugees into our nation and into our Commonwealth? Without the ability to screen for security risks, we could open the door to a similar, devastating attack right here on U.S. soil.
“While I have sympathy for what many innocent Syrians are facing, the safety and security of Pennsylvanians, and all Americans, must take priority. Even putting security concerns aside, how can we accept the cost and responsibility of taking in refugees when there are homeless veterans suffering on our streets?
“It is unacceptable to take in refugees from a nation that harbors terrorists. We must take decisive action to reverse this dangerous policy, and end this now.”
