WHAT: With so many Pennsylvanians relying on Unemployment Compensation benefits due to the economic ramifications of the COVID-19 pandemic, the House Labor and Industry Committee will convene an informational hearing to discuss whether the Department of Labor and Industry is ready to proceed with its transition to a new benefit application process in early October or if such a transition could hamper unemployed Pennsylvanians’ access to their benefits.

WHO: House Labor and Industry Committee Chairman Jim Cox (R-Berks/Lancaster); other members of the committee; Geoff Moomaw, president of Interstate Tax Services and the House Republicans’ appointee to the state unemployment compensation system’s Benefit Modernization Advisory Committee; Julia Simon-Mishel, supervising attorney with Philadelphia Legal Assistance and House Democrats’ appointee to the state unemployment compensation system’s Benefit Modernization Advisory Committee; W. Gerard Oleksiak, secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry (L&I); Robert O’Brien, executive deputy secretary for administration at L&I; William Trusky, deputy secretary for unemployment compensation programs at L&I; David Naisby, chief information officer at L&I; and Paul Toomey, president of Geographic Solutions Inc.
