Wheeland Receives House Committee Assignments for 2015-16 Session
HARRISBURG – Rep. Jeff C. Wheeland (R-Lycoming) today said he has been appointed to the House Local Government, State Government and Commerce committees as the 2015-16 session gets into full swing in Harrisburg.
“I am pleased to have these appointments and look forward to serving on these various committees,” said Wheeland. “I believe my background as a Lycoming County commissioner will help me bring ideas to the table that will improve the relationship between state and local government entities.”
Wheeland said the House Local Government Committee addresses issues related to the municipal code, powers and duties of local officials, planning and zoning, intergovernmental cooperation, municipal authorities and police departments, and state technical and financial assistance to municipalities. Having worked in conjunction with this committee in his prior local government role will aid his work in this area.
In addition, the House State Government Committee focuses on matters including the Election Code, Right-to-Know Law, the Sunshine Act, Lobbying Disclosure Act, Public Official and Employee Ethics Act, and the conveyance or leasing of state-owned land.
Wheeland said the House Commerce Committee is responsible for originating legislation and overseeing implementation of programs which affect Pennsylvania companies. The committee has primary jurisdiction over legislation dealing with corporate governance, regulation of offers of sale and credit, regulation of various institutions chartered under state law, and economic development through state economic and technical assistance programs.
“These are well-rounded appointments that will allow me to help bring many business and government officials together to improve the economic condition of our Commonwealth,” said Wheeland.
