Heffley Responds to Gov. Wolf’s 2015-16 Budget Proposal
LEHIGHTON – Rep. Doyle Heffley (R-Carbon) today released the following statement in response to Gov. Tom Wolf’s 2015-16 budget proposal:
“Taxpayers dese rve their government to pass an on-time and fiscally responsible budget that lives within its means. However, I am concerned that the governor is proposing a $33.8 billion spending plan that includes a record-setting $4.7 billion increase in state spending funded by increased taxes on working families. As the legislature and administration work toward a budget that provides relief to property owners, increases opportunities for students and makes it easier for businesses to operate and hire employees in the Commonwealth, we must keep in mind that we cannot achieve these goals simply by overtaxing our residents and spending more money.
“One of the most important issues to residents of the 122nd District is reducing property taxes. After meeting with Governor Wolf to discuss the critical need to provide relief to Pennsylvania’s property owners, I was pleased that he recognized this issue in his budget address today.
“To protect taxpayers, any property tax reduction plan must include a dollar-for-dollar tax shift so that it does not produce a net tax increase. I look forward to working with the governor to find common ground on a solution that would provide meaningful property tax relief for our residents.”
