Cutler, Greiner Respond to Governor’s Budget Presentation
LANCASTER – In response to Gov. Tom Wolf’s presentation of his 2015-16 Commonwealth budget proposal at Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology in Lancaster today, Rep. Bryan Cutler (R-Peach Bottom), House Majority whip, and Rep. Keith Greiner (R-Upper Leacock), House Appropriations Committee member, released the following statement:
“Gov. Wolf is not telling the whole story about his property tax shift proposal. A more comprehensive analysis would take into account the nearly $6 billion total increases in sales and income taxes that Pennsylvania residents would pay under his proposal, as well as the $3.6 billion in property tax and rent rebate relief from the governor’s plan. The net outcome would be a massive tax increase on hard-working individuals and families.
“House Majority Appropriations Committee preliminary estimates show that taxpayers in 13 of the 15 Lancaster County school districts would ultimately pay more in taxes under the governor’s budget plan. As a whole, Lancaster County taxpayers would pay approximately $215 million in new taxes and only receive nearly $114 million in relief from Wolf’s property tax shift plan. When the governor’s proposed 21 percent increase in Personal Income Taxes and 40 percent increase in Sales and Use Taxes, generated from a higher rate and expanded base, are taken into account, Lancaster County taxpayers would pay roughly $100 million in additional taxes.
“We look forward to working on and advancing a property tax plan that provides dollar-for-dollar property tax relief.”
