House Policy Committee to Accept Testimony on Organ Donation

WHAT: In an effort to ensure policymakers in Harrisburg are educated on the complexities of organ donation, Rep. Kerry Benninghoff (R-Centre/Mifflin), chairman of the House Majority Policy Committee, will host the first of three public hearings on the topic.
 
The first hearing in the series will accept testimony on the medical aspects of organ donation. Future hearings will focus on the involvement of law enforcement in the organ donation process and the ethics of organ donation.
 
WHO: Benninghoff will be joined by several Republican House members from across the state. Testifiers will include from representatives of the PA Academy of Family Physicians; Allegheny General Hospital; Geisinger Hospital; Center for Organ Recovery and Education, Gift of Life; a board certified cardiologist; and former Lt. Gov. Mark Singel, who served as acting governor of Pennsylvania when Gov. Bob Casey underwent and recovered from a heart-liver transplant in 1993.
