State Senate Again Holds Key to Direct Shipment of Wine, Says Sonney
HARRISBURG – For the second consecutive session, the fate of legislation that would allow direct shipment of wine to the homes of Pennsylvania consumers is in the hands of the state Senate, says Rep. Curt Sonney (R-Harborcreek).
“Last session, my bill passed the House but got lost in the efforts to privatize our state stores. I’m hoping
House Bill 189 will run on its own merit as a piece of legislation that will allow us to join 40 other states in permitting direct shipment of wine to the doorstep of Pennsylvania consumers.”
Under Sonney’s bill, which passed the House overwhelmingly Monday, out-of-state wineries and Pennsylvania’s limited wineries would be allowed to ship an unlimited amount of wine of any type directly to a Pennsylvania resident, provided the winery has purchased the appropriate shipping license from the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.
“All boxes of wine being shipped must be clearly labeled as containing alcohol and the person signing to accept the shipment must be 21 years of age or older,” Sonney added.
