Nelson: Let’s Keep RGGI Discussion Behind Us
11/1/2023
HARRISBURG – Rep. Eric Nelson (R-Westmoreland), Republican Chairman of the House Gas and Oil Caucus, issued the following statement after hearing of the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court decision Wednesday to void Pennsylvania’s entrance into the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), a multi-state energy tax program that would have increased electricity costs on Pennsylvanians to heat their homes and turn on the lights.

“From the beginning we called the governor’s RGGI mandate an executive overreach. Clearly, today’s decision confirms that governors must work with the House and Senate to advance major policy that could impact taxes, inflation and energy prices.

“Unfortunately, RGGI’s consequences have cost Pennsylvania billions in new investment and thousands of working-family jobs. If Pennsylvania is going to be open for business, we must keep the RGGI discussion behind us and Gov. Josh Shapiro should not appeal this decision.”
