House Republicans Achieve Tuition Freeze for State-Related Universities, Says Delozier
10/31/2023
HARRISBURG – After several months of seeking increased transparency and tuition freezes for students enrolled in the Commonwealth’s state-related universities, the House Tuesday voted to approve their funding request for the 2023-24 fiscal year, bringing the state budget one step closer to completion, according to Rep. Sheryl M. Delozier (R-Cumberland). Following the vote on House Bill 612, Delozier issued the following statement:

“Since June, House Republicans have been standing firm for students and families, demanding a compromise on funding for state-related universities,” said Delozier. “Today, those efforts finally came to fruition when the House voted to approve funding for the universities after a pledge tuition would be frozen for the academic year.

“The tuition freeze, coupled with the House passage of House Bill 1556 to increase transparency for state-related universities, is a victory for students, families and taxpayers alike. These measures are also evidence that the House is capable of working together in a bipartisan manner for the benefit of all Pennsylvanians.

“There is still much work to be done to make positive reforms to higher education, but the actions taken by the House this week give me confidence we can continue to find common ground on this important issue. Future generations of leaders deserve our commitment to improving the higher education system, which creates a vibrant, strong workforce and economy.”

Delozier, Republican Caucus Administrator for the 2023-24 Legislative Session, joined other members of House Republican leadership in a press conference to highlight this significant win for Pennsylvania students and families.
