Warner: Latest Moves by House Democrat Majority an ‘Insult to Democracy’
10/5/2023
HARRISBURG – Millions of Pennsylvanians’ voices were silenced Wednesday night in a series of late-night procedural maneuvers orchestrated by the House Democrat majority, according to Rep. Ryan Warner (R-Fayette).
After ignoring their duty to complete the state budget process over the past three months, House Democrats abruptly decided to jam through a series of major policy initiatives that would spend billions of dollars beyond what the state will bring in this year, subvert efforts to hold certain higher education institutions accountable for their spending of taxpayer dollars and cause more chaos in the state’s upcoming elections.
“What’s happening now, and what happened tonight on the floor, is an insult to democracy. Disgraceful,” Warner said during a late-night meeting of the House Appropriations Committee. “We had all summer to address to address these issues. Yet here we are at 11:30 at night, shutting down debate, doing backdoor procedural movements to add amendments to bills.”
While the majority maneuvered to incorporate their own unvetted amendments, they repeatedly voted to table amendments sponsored by Republicans, cutting off debate about issues that matter to the people of Pennsylvania.
