Budget Reflects the Interests of Pennsylvanians, Says Marsico
6/28/2015
HARRISBURG -- Rep. Ron Marsico (R-Lower Paxton) issued the following statement following passage of a state budget for fiscal year 2015-16 in the House of Representatives:

“At the core, this budget takes into account the concerns of Pennsylvanians by focusing on improving our state’s economy and keeping our residents safe. I believe we have managed to come up with a budget that is good for Pennsylvanians, while at the same time doing the right thing by increasing funding in crucial areas of our state.

“Our main goal was to not raise taxes on hard-working Pennsylvanians or employers and help businesses create and retain jobs. This, for me, was a non-negotiable part of this budget.

“This budget provides more money for education, including nearly $500 million for education, which I feel will truly be an investment in the future of our great state.

“I was strongly opposed to the governor’s plan of enacting billions of dollars in new taxes. I feel that we have certainly showed a willingness to work with the governor to face the fiscal issues in the Commonwealth and deal with them in a responsible manner. We simply cannot spend what we don’t have, and we can’t expect the people of Pennsylvania to give us more and more of their hard-earned money.

“I believe we came to an agreement that will help boost the state’s economy and be good for Pennsylvanians. The budget that we passed this week is certainly a good start to achieving that goal. Passing a responsible budget was our priority and our focus. I pushed to complete this budget in a timely fashion with no new taxes. And, that is exactly what happened.”

House Bill 1192 now goes to the Senate for a vote before heading to the governor’s desk.
