Grant Will Help Centralize Perry County Government Services, Stambaugh Says
HARRISBURG – A $3 million state grant awarded last week to the Perry County Commissioners will support the early stages of a capital project aimed at putting many of the county’s administrative offices − currently spread about in rented spaces − into one complex, according to Rep. Perry Stambaugh (R-Perry/Juniata).
The funding, awarded through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP), will be used by the commissioners to acquire land and hire architectural firms to plan and construct a new county office building. Last year, the project received a separate $1 million RACP award.
“What these grants do is allow the building to become a reality,” Perry County Commissioner Chairman Brian S. Allen said. “Over time, the new structure will save a lot of taxpayer dollars through improved efficiencies and reduced maintenance and expenses.”
In advocating for the grants, Stambaugh said, “I applaud the commissioners for having the foresight to recognize how centralized services will provide long-term benefits for Perry County. It was a no-brainer to seek these grants on their behalf.”
As envisioned, the building would not affect court operations, including offices that support judicial services, Allen said. RACP is a Commonwealth grant program administered by the Office of the Budget for the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational, and historical improvement projects. RACP projects are authorized in the Redevelopment Assistance section of a Capital Budget Itemization Act, have a regional or multi-jurisdictional impact, and generate substantial increases in or maintain current levels of employment, tax revenues, or other measures of economic activity.
