Truitt Says Budget Pain Can End Today with Governor’s Signature
9/24/2015
HARRSIBURG – After passage of legislation to offer emergency funding to health and human services organizations and school districts adversely impacted by Gov. Tom Wolf’s June 30 budget veto, Rep. Dan Truitt (R-Chester) issued the following statement:

“There is no reason for the governor to veto this emergency funding legislation other than to deliberately inflict pain on citizens of our state. A veto would be a cynical ploy to gain political leverage over the General Assembly in an effort to win support for his proposed massive hikes in sales and income taxes. Using our most vulnerable citizens in this way would be both mean-spirited and immoral.

“While I voted for this emergency funding, I would have preferred to have run House Bill 1410, legislation I introduced that would permanently take Pennsylvanians out of the political crossfire surrounding budget negotiations. In the spirit of compromise, and to help Pennsylvanians who need immediate relief, I willingly supported the emergency funding so that we can bring an end to the current pain experienced by the public.

“This is our third attempt to compel the governor to do the right thing. For all the talk of compromise on the governor’s part, we are still waiting for him to propose a permanent budget that can get more than zero votes in the Legislature – something his original budget failed to do, even being rejected by members of his own party. To date, no House Democrat has put his or her name on a set of bills or amendments that includes all of the pieces of the governor’s plan. We must see a workable proposal in writing before we can vote on it. I call upon the governor and his party to produce one.”
