Adams-York County House Republicans Endorse Emergency Funding Budget, Funding of Essential Services
HARRISBURG – The state House today passed legislation to authorize emergency state funding that would support human services providers and recipients of student loans, while unlocking federal and state dollars designated for Pennsylvania’s public school districts. The party-line vote sends
House Bill 224 and Senate Bills 1000 and 1001 to Gov. Tom Wolf’s desk for his signature into law.
Members of the Adams-York House delegation, state Reps. Seth Grove (R-Dover), Kate Klunk (R-Hanover), Dan Moul (R-Gettysburg), Kristin Phillips-Hill (R-York Township), Mike Regan (R-Dillsburg), Stan Saylor (R-Red Lion) and Will Tallman (R-Abbottstown), issued the following statement upon passage of the bills:
“Today’s vote means approximately $11 billion in state funding that will carry Pennsylvania through the month of October may be distributed among service groups, students and schools that desperately need it. It resolves an interruption that has forced domestic violence and rape crisis centers to either consider or go through with plans to take out loans so their doors remain open.
“Gov. Wolf’s signature on these bills will put tuition and textbooks back in the hands of college students who were forced to do without when classes got underway. It will allow public schools to put to use federal funds that must pass through state government before being accessed. State dollars, which actually exceed funding levels from prior years, will also be available.
“These bills are not meant to replace the state budget, but rather fund vital services until an agreement can be worked out. Without them, taxpayers who depend on these providers will be left in limbo for reasons that are completely unnecessary.
“Budget negotiations will continue in the interim. We recognize the governor’s latest proposals on pension reform and liquor privatization. While far from final solutions, his suggestions demonstrate a realization that changes need to be made. We look forward to working with him to find solutions that drive more money to the classroom and get the Commonwealth out of the liquor business while not raising taxes on hard-working Pennsylvanians.”
