White Backs Emergency Funding Bill, Challenges Gov. Wolf to Sign It
9/24/2015
HARRISBURG-- Rep. Martina White (R-Philadelphia) joined a majority of her House colleagues in passing emergency funding legislation to release revenue to school districts and social service agencies which are in dire need of state subsidies.

The legislation, Senate Bills 1000 and 1001, would provide $11 billion in state funds and allows $24.3 billion in federal dollars to reach their intended recipients.

“Gov. Wolf has taken an ‘all or nothing’ strategy and is standing in the way of funding critical services to our children’s education, like ordering textbooks, and human services.” White said. “I urge him to sign this legislation.”

The current crisis began when Gov. Wolf vetoed the budget passed in June because it did not contain his massive, broad-based income and sales tax increases.

“I am outraged,” White said. “Instead of funding programs everyone agrees should be funded, Gov. Wolf is holding your tax dollars hostage. I don’t believe our kids and our fellow Pennsylvanians should be used as leverage in negotiations. Our governor needs to learn that he works for you. Your hard earned money belongs to you, not to support his massive spending spree. I will continue to fight against Gov. Wolf’s tax and spend plan which is the largest tax increase in Pennsylvania’s history.”
