Delozier Votes to Send Emergency Funding to Service Organizations, Schools
9/24/2015
HARRISBURG – To help struggling social services and school districts, Rep. Sheryl Delozier (R-Cumberland) today voted to send an emergency funding package to the governor’s desk. The package allows state and federal dollars to reach their intended recipients, retroactively to July 1 and carrying through to Oct. 31. Delozier issued the following statement in response to her vote:

“While there is still disagreement over how much the state should spend and whether the governor’s tax increases should be honored, there is no reason to hold our schools and service organizations hostage. This temporary funding will allow nonprofit health and human service agencies and school districts to receive the necessary funds to keep operating and support our communities while a final budget is worked out between the General Assembly and the governor.

“Human service agencies in our area, including domestic violence shelters, food pantries and parochial schools, have reached out to tell me they are in danger of having to curtail services, lay off employees or completely shut down. We have the state and federal money coming into the state to meet these needs and it should not be withheld as political leverage. I am hopeful the governor will agree that the individuals who benefit from the critical services these entities provide do not deserve to be negatively impacted as a result of this budget impasse.

“My vote today was an honest attempt to provide critically needed funding to educate our children and provide services to our most vulnerable citizens while the philosophical and political issues between the governor and the General Assembly are resolved.”
