Heffley Votes to Provide Relief to Human Service Agencies with Emergency Funding Bill
9/25/2015
HARRISBURG - Rep. Doyle Heffley (R-Carbon) released the following statement after the House voted on Thursday to pass emergency funding bills. The funding includes state appropriations amounting to $11 billion, retroactively to July 1 and carrying through to Oct. 31.

“I’m pleased that we passed the emergency funding bill. The message from Carbon County school districts and human service agencies is clear. They need this money to fund their critical operations. At the end of the day, we need to be responsible and fund these vital services. This budget impasse is about politics. However, this is affecting real people, and real people cannot afford the governor’s proposed tax increases. There is no need for the general public to be punished for the inability of the governor to compromise. I urge Gov. Tom Wolf to seriously consider signing this bill.”

In addition to four months (or 33.3 percent) of state aid based on House Bill 1192’s levels (which are higher than the 2014-15 state budget), the emergency funding bill would allow $24.3 billion in federal dollars to reach their intended recipients, and PHEAA grants and county child welfare funding to be disbursed at 50 percent.
