State Government Committee to Take Up Bills to Allow the NFL and MLB to Play on Sundays
WHAT: The House State Government Committee will meet Wednesday to take up several bills, including a measure that would allow the National Football League and Major League Baseball to play games in the Commonwealth on Sundays.
House Bill 391 would repeal
Act 49 of 1933, which prohibits individuals and associations from playing or engaging in baseball or football games before 2 p.m. and after 6 p.m. on Sundays. This would allow the Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburgh Pirates, Philadelphia Eagles, Pittsburgh Steelers and all other football and baseball teams to legally play games on Sundays.
Other bills the committee will take up include:
•
House Bill 2087, known as the “The Personal Privacy Protection Act,” would ensure the protection of donors’, members’, and volunteers’ personal information.
•
House Bill 2115 would repeal provisions in the Administrative Code of 1929 that relate to the State Board of Public Welfare and the Art Commission, both of which were terminated under the operation of the Sunset Act (Act 142 of 1981). The Sunset Act set a timetable for the review and possible termination of state agencies, boards, bureaus, commissions, committees, councils and other similar units of government. Most of the entities were extended by the General Assembly, but some were terminated under the terms of the act.
•
House Bill 2385 would establish the Regulatory Sandbox Program to provide targeted regulatory relief from needlessly cumbersome regulations for businesses.
•
House Bill 2480 would establish uniform administrative requirements, cost principles and audit requirements for state and federal pass-through awards to non-federal entities. This would create accountability and transparency in taxpayer-funded grant awards.
