White Issues Statement About Income Tax Vote
HARRISBURG – Rep. Martina White (R-Philadelphia) issued the following statement regarding the General Assembly’s rejection of Gov. Tom Wolf’s latest tax increase proposal:
“Today, the state House was presented with a tax proposal that would have cost hard-working families over $1.3 billion. I know these families; they’re my neighbors. They can’t afford the pay cut Gov. Wolf wants them to take.
“When you take a look at Gov. Wolf’s tax proposal, 95 percent of the money comes from working people and 5 percent from gas drillers. I cannot support a budget that breaks the backs of my constituents.
“With all Republicans and some Democrats voting ‘no’ to the governor’s massive tax increase, I hope we can get back to the negotiating table to work out a budget that is good for all Pennsylvanians.
“Tomorrow marks the 100th day the state has been without a budget, and our schools and human service agencies are really hurting. We have tried four different times to release the funding we all agree on. We need to find a way to come together, develop a budget that is reasonable and responsible, and get state funding flowing again to the people who need it most.”
