Dush, PA House Decisively Reject Massive Wolf Tax Increases for Second Time
10/7/2015
HARRISBURG – Rep. Cris Dush (R-Jefferson/Indiana) issued the following statement today after the Pennsylvania House once again voted to reject Gov. Tom Wolf’s latest tax proposals that would increase the overall tax burden for Pennsylvania’s working families and impose the largest natural gas extraction tax in the nation:

“The House voted on Gov. Wolf’s first tax proposal on June 1. It went down 0-193 without a single Democrat or Republican voting for it.

“After vetoing both an on-time balanced budget and an emergency funding package for child welfare, elderly, rape victims and schools, the governor started again with another broad-based tax increase proposal, even though legislative Republicans have repeatedly told him he could not get the votes. Today, as predicted, the governor’s latest tax increase plan was rightfully and decisively rejected on a bipartisan basis.

“Almost 100 days into the current state budget impasse, there are about 1,600 pieces of legislation before the House and we have yet to see one piece of legislation out of the governor or the Democrats that specifies how much they want to spend on all line items. This is not transparent, good-faith negotiating. It is asking us to give him a check from my constituents’ wallets and trust him to spend it wisely. He has not earned that trust.

“Although, I am grateful for the nine House Democrats who made today’s vote bipartisan, I will be working to achieve more support from across the aisle for a responsible budget.

“Hopefully, the governor will now come to reality and realize he has to negotiate a reasonable, no-tax-increase budget that not only takes care of our most vulnerable citizens, but also every hard-working taxpayer who is responsible for paying the freight.”
