Topper and Metzgar Respond to Gov. Wolf’s Announcement on Syrian Refugees in Pennsylvania
HARRISBURG- Reps. Jesse Topper (R-Bedford/Fulton/Franklin) and Carl Walker Metzgar (R-Somerset/Bedford) issued the following statement in response to Gov. Tom Wolf’s announcement concerning the placement of Syrian refugees in Pennsylvania:
“We adamantly disagree with Gov. Tom Wolf’s announcement on Monday concerning the placement of Syrian refugees in the Commonwealth. Any government’s primary responsibility is for the protection of its citizens. As national security officials have shared, our intelligence community may not be capable of determining the background of refugees coming into our country and our state. We must halt any additional refugee immigration until we can be certain that no safety risks are posed. We sympathize with the refugees who are fleeing their nation engulfed in civil war, but as recent events in Paris and across the globe have shown, we must prioritize the safety of Pennsylvanians. We urge the governor to reconsider his decision and urge our representatives in Congress to act swiftly.”
