Grant Program to Provide Funding to Eligible Ambulance Companies, Says Metzgar
HARRISBURG?– Rep. Carl Metzgar (R-Somerset/Bedford) announced that eligible emergency medical services (EMS) companies will be notified by the Office of the State Fire Commissioner (OSFC) about how they can receive additional grant funding to support their work during the ongoing pandemic.
“Our heroes go above and beyond to keep our communities safe,” said Metzgar. “I am pleased to see ambulance companies continue to receive support so they can continue serving our communities.”
Established under Senate Bill 739, a bill which Metzgar supported, the COVID-19 Grant Recovery Program sets aside $25 million for the fund. Metzgar said companies do not need to apply because the OSFC will provide EMS companies with a form to certify intended use of funding.
The funding is permitted to be used in the following ways:
• Construction and renovation of the EMS company's facilities and purchase or repair of fixtures, furnishings, office equipment and support services necessary to maintain or improve the capability of the services to provide ambulance, emergency medical, basic life support and advanced life support services.
• Repair of ambulance equipment or purchase thereof.
• Debt reduction.
• Training and certification of members.
• Education of the general public regarding community risk reduction programs.
• Recruitment and retention programs, including, but not limited to, programs for minors.
• Revenue loss for grants issued in 2021 and 2022.
Metzgar said grant recipients must provide a report to the OSFC on intended fund use no later than July 30, to receive funding. Grants will be awarded on a pro-rata basis.
