Mercuri Excited for Opportunity to Improve Quality of Education for Children in Pennsylvania
HARRISBURG – As the discussion continues on how to improve the state’s education system, Rep. Rob Mercuri (R-Allegheny) announced today he has been appointed to serve on the House Education Committee’s Subcommittee on Special Education.
“I am thankful to be appointed to this subcommittee that will give me the opportunity to make a positive difference,” Mercuri said. “Every child’s education matters, and one of my legislative priorities is to come up with solutions to ensure we are giving our children the very best opportunities to succeed.”
Coming nearly two months removed from the passage of the 2021-22 Pennsylvania budget, which featured a record-high $13.55 billion investment in PreK through 12 education, funding for special education increased by $50 million to $1.24 billion. Mercuri said this reinforces the commitment to support educational opportunities for children throughout Pennsylvania.
“Each child throughout the Commonwealth has unique needs that must be met in order for them to succeed,” Mercuri said. “I look forward to working with my colleagues to create commonsense bipartisan legislation so every student can achieve their academic goals.”
Rep. Mercuri also serves on Commerce, Finance and Urban Affairs Committees.
