Struzzi Votes ‘Yes’ on Bill to Level the Field for High School Sports Playoffs
4/29/2026
HARRISBURG –State Rep. Jim Struzzi (R-Indiana) shared today to he voted in favor of HB 41, legislation which would permit the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) to establish separate playoff categories for schools based on whether their student-athlete population is limited to a specific set of geographic boundaries.

“The existing PIAA playoff system is unfair to most Indiana County schools,” Struzzi said. “My vote for HB 41 will permit the PIAA to begin the process of establishing a separate playoff system for schools who can recruit star players without geographic limits. Schools who can recruit across district, county, and state lines should not be playing for the same title against our local public schools whose players are limited to a defined geographical area.”

Struzzi noted this legislation was supported by several local school districts including Purchase Line and Marion Center.

“During the 2025-26 session, I have worked on several reforms in the PIAA system,” Struzzi added. “Spectators at playoff games can once again pay for tickets with cash, which the PIAA had previously banned. I also led the charge to implement the provisions of my legislation, HB 1462, in last year’s budget, which permits hometown broadcasters to broadcast, stream, and provide play-by-play of high school games throughout the playoffs.”
