Rowe Introduces Legislation to Lower PIT, Create Economic Opportunity for PA Families
HARRISBURG – Legislation to put more money in the pockets of working Pennsylvanians has been introduced in the House, according to Rep. David H. Rowe (R-Snyder/Union/Mifflin/Juniata), who is the bill’s prime sponsor.
House Bill 2370 would lower Pennsylvania’s Personal Income Tax (PIT) rate from 3.07% to 2.99% for six months, helping Pennsylvania families struggling to keep up with the cost of everyday essentials.
"A reduction in the PIT rate can offer meaningful relief to working families by allowing them to keep more of their earnings,” said Rowe. “At a time when the cost of living has many pinching pennies, even a temporary decrease in the PIT rate can help households manage expenses and strengthen their financial stability.”
Rowe’s legislation is part of a broader initiative championed by House Republicans to create “Freedom Through Affordability.” The bill package includes additional efforts, including sales tax holidays for gasoline; the gross receipts tax on energy and cell phone bills; and more. The combined tax holidays are estimated to save families up to $1,100.
“The Commonwealth must become a place where families can afford to plant strong roots,” Rowe continued. “When Pennsylvanians keep more of what they earn, they have the freedom and flexibility to make investments in their future. My legislation is aimed at providing relief and increasing economic opportunities.”
Rowe is hopeful the “Freedom Through Affordability” proposals will garner bipartisan support, noting that high prices are affecting families across the entire Commonwealth. He is also hopeful these proposals will open the door to discussion among lawmakers about creating permanent tax relief in Pennsylvania.
